Zeus was the king of all the Greek gods. He controlled the sky and all that came with
it. His father, Kronos, swallowed all his children in order to remain in power, except Zeus. Zeus was able to grow up and save his brothers and sisters that had been devoured. He married Hera, but had several affairs with mortal women. This made Hera understandably angry. His Roman form was Jupiter.

Athena was the goddess of wisdom, crafts, and military. She was born when Zeus was in the midst of combat and she sprung out of his forehead. She was the patron of the city Athens, where the Parthenon was erected. The Parthenon was built as a temple to honor her. Her Roman form was Minerva.

Artemis

Artemis was the goddess of hunting. She was the daughter of Zeus and Apollo's twin sister. Since Apollo was the god of the sun, she was often associated with the moon. She was a patron to the hunters. Her Roman form was Diana.

Hermes
Messenger of Gods

Hermes was the messenger of the gods. He was the patron of travelers and thieves. He was known for being shrewd and cunning, which is why he is often associated with thieves. It was also his job to lead the dead into the underworld. His Roman form was Mercury.

Ares
God of War

Ares was the god of war and was known for instigating violence. Aphrodite had an affair with him, despite the fact that she was married to Hephaestus. He only had a few temples dedicated to him. His Roman form was Mars.

Poseidon

Poseidon was the god of seas, and also earthquakes and horses. His palace was below the ocean and his chariot was pulled along by horses. He had temperament issues that resulted in him causing earthquakes at times. He had many wives, one being Amphitrite, and produced Triton who was half human and half fish. Poseidon

Dionysus

Dionysus was the god of wine. His mother, Semele, was killed by Hera's conspiracy, while he was still in her womb. Zeus, his father, was able to save him by making him fully develop in his thigh. He was a later addition to Greek mythology and is barely included in Homer's epics. His Roman form was Bacchus.

Demeter

Demeter was the goddess of agriculture. She was the mother of Persephone, who was abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld. Zeus ordered Hades to free her daughter because earth had no grain while Demeter was searching for Persephone. Hades tricked Persephone into eating a pomegranate and she was forced to spend a third of the year with Hades. The quarter she is with her mother is when things grow, which is the summer. Her Roman form was Ceres.

Apollo

Apollo was the god of music, archery, medicine, and prophecy. He was also the god of the sunlight. He was known for driving his chariot, which depicted the sun, across the sky. He was the twin brother of the goddess, Artemis. His Roman form was Apollo too.

Hephaestus

Hephaestus was the god of fire and blacksmiths. He was the son of Zeus and Hera. He was born crippled, causing Hera to throw him off a mountain. He was later accepted by the other gods. Hera had tricked Aphrodite into marrying him, not telling her about his deformation. Aphrodite had an affair with Ares and so Hephaestus humiliated both of them in front of the other gods. His Roman form was Vulcan.

Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty. She was created out of sea foam, therefor technically being the daughter of Poseidon. She had entered a beauty contest along with Athena and Hera, and had emerged as the victor. Hera was jealous and tricked her into marrying Hephaestus. Aphrodite found out he was deformed and began to have an affair with Ares. Her Roman form was Venus.
