The geography of Greece helped shape the mythology. Greece is a peninsula and is surrounded by sea. Mountains divide up the land into separate areas. Because of this, Ancient Greece never became one, unified empire and stayed as small, individual kingdoms. Travelling was easier by sea compared to land , causing Greeks to become seafarers. It also caused them to trade over the Mediterranean. Lack of adequate farmland caused the Greeks to establish colonies over the Mediterranean as well.
